20+ years of innovation

At Ascend, we’ve been and remain steadfast in our focus on and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, propelling us from an entrepreneurial startup to a prestigious, nationally recognized independent laboratory with expansive testing and research capabilities, proprietary customer enablement technologies, and partnerships with respected institutions and organizations like Stanford University and Siemens.

  • Founded as a clinical reference lab in Silicon Valley

    Started with a few desktop analyzers in a space smaller than a one-car garage

  • 2001
  • Launched LabCheck – 1st web-based ordering and reporting platform

  • 2003
  • Moved to a new, 35,000 square-foot laboratory in Redwood City

  • 2014
  • Launched Ascend University – 1st online training program for clinic staff

  • 2020
  • Scaled up major COVID-19 testing and research program

  • 2022
  • Opened state-of-the-art 100,000 square-foot facility in Sunnyvale, CA

  • 2022
  • Expand relationship with Siemens Healthineers by outfitting laboratory with over 40 Atellica® Solution analyzers

  • 2022
  • First lab to use SambaNova Systems and DeLorean (AI) – based renal care software

  • 2023
  • One of the largest and busiest clinical laboratories in the US

    Performs up to 1 million tests per day

    Serves 98% of the independent dialysis clinics in the US and a dozen foreign countries
